Ingredients

8 Servings
  • 250 grams all-purpose flour
  • 15 grams baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 120 milliliters milk
  • 1 gram salt
  • 85 grams unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3
Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
Step 5
Pour the milk and egg mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 6
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 2 cm thick.
Step 7
Use a round cutter to cut out scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 8
Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk or beaten egg for a glossy finish.
Step 9
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top.
Step 10
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with jam and clotted cream.
