Ingredients

  • 200 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 355 ml beer
  • 50 grams cornstarch
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1000 ml vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2 inch rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
Step 2
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3
Gradually add the beer to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth.
Step 4
Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 180°C (350°F).
Step 5
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
Step 6
Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Step 7
Remove the onion rings from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
